We plan the fire-fighting and fire-protection systems in accordance with AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) standards, and/or international standards such as NFPA or FM.

Water is stored in underground fire reserve tank of the stipulated capacity, and is drawn using electrically driven jockey pumps, fire pumps or sprinkler pumps. All pumps have a separate suction line from the fire suction header. Delivery from the pumps is connected to the respective hydrant and sprinkler system, for which installation control valves with hydraulic alarm are provided in the basement. The sprinkler pump is isolated from the main discharge header by a no-return valve so that the hydrant pump can also act as standby for the sprinkler system.

The pumps are designed to maintain a pressure of 3.5 Kg/ at the farthest hydrant. A standby diesel engine driven fire pump of the same capacity is installed as back-up for the electrically operated fire hydrant/sprinkler pump, as per fire regulations. Independent jockey pumps for hydrant and sprinkler system operate intermittently in order to take care of hydraulic losses in the system and maintain the minimum pressure respectively in wet risers and sprinkler system. Fire pumps rating is in accordance with AHJ directive and also caters to future expansion requirement.

Fire Hydrant System of type Class III (NFPA 14) is generally provided as the same conforms to AHJ standards as well. Internal and external standpipe fire hydrant system is provided with landing valve, hose reel, first aid hose reels, complete with instantaneous pattern short gunmetal pipe. Provision of flow switch on riser is made (if required) by the operator for effective zone monitoring. The flow switch is wired to FAP and indicates water flow on hydrant of the identified zone.

Recessed cupboards/fire hydrant cabinets are strategically located for fire fighting requirement. Cabinet locations are decided as per compartmentation plan, in consultation with the architect.

We locate external hydrants within 2m to 15m from the building, and with a spacing of 45-50m between them. The hydrants are placed within protective structures to avoid damage from vehicle movement. Fire department connections, capable of directly feeding the ring mains or static fire reserve tanks, are also provided near the main entrance.

Based upon the project requirement and storage hazard, we plan and design the Sprinkler System, which is provided with control valves, flow and tampers switches at suitable locations and connected to control module of the fire alarm system for its monitoring and activation.

For server rooms, EPABX room and other rooms with sensitive equipment, we provide clean agent suppression system designed in accordance to NFPA 2001.

We design and install the CO2 extinguishing system comprising of cylinder, piping and nozzle for LT Panel and other electrical panels as per project requirement. Portable fire extinguishers of water (gas pressure), carbon-dioxide and foam type are provided as first aid fire extinguishing appliances.

For fire-protection of the helipad, low expansion AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) unit/system is provided, in compliance with NFPA 418. Heliport foam fire protection utilizes the water supply available from the standpipe system.

Kitchen hood fire protection system is generally specified by the facility planner and included in scope of the kitchen equipment supplier. However, all necessary interfaces with FAP and fuel shut off annunciation are included in our design scope.
